About the Work

This series of digital drawings transposes Leonardo da Vinci's exploration of proportion and perfection, the Vitruvian Man, onto the form of the fruit. Each work examines the fruit as both object and idea: a natural form carrying implicit codes of symmetry, growth, and ideal structure. By applying principles of mathematical harmony and proportion, the series interrogates human drives toward optimization, order, and ideal forms, both in nature and in the constructed world.

At the core of the work is the question of perfection as a historical and contemporary phenomenon. In Leonardo’s time, the study of human proportion was inseparable from scientific observation, philosophical inquiry, and aesthetic aspiration. Today, the work resonates with contemporary societal concerns: the optimization of life, the engineering of nature, and the digital simulation of idealized forms in biotechnology, design, and algorithms. The series prompts reflection on what we consider perfect, why we seek it, and how the very notion of perfection is culturally constructed and mediated.

The fruit serves as a lens for analyzing growth, maturation, and form. It is at once familiar and abstract, natural and idealized, real and imagined. By translating Leonardo’s inquiries into a contemporary digital medium, the work creates a dialogue between historical practice and present-day reflections on optimization, measurement, and control.

These drawings operate at the intersection of art, science, and philosophy. They invite viewers to engage not only with the formal qualities of the objects depicted, but also with the broader cultural, social, and epistemological implications of the pursuit of the ideal.
